Dear Columbine Families,

We had a wonderful September at Columbine! Students settled into their routines, built strong classroom communities, and jumped into learning with Cougar pride. Highlights included Picture Day, our first Cafecito meeting, and seeing students show kindness and leadership across the school. Thank you for your support in making the start of the year such a success!

October will be a busy and exciting month. Please take note of the important dates below:


Looking Ahead in October

October Count Day: October 1, 2025 Please ensure students attend school on-time today (and everyday!)

Parent-Teacher Conferences

  • October 7 and 8: 3:20–8:00 p.m.
  • October 9: 3:20–6:00 p.m.
    This is a valuable time to meet with your child’s teacher, celebrate successes, and set goals for the year. We look forward to connecting with you!

Chocolate Fundraiser

  • October 7–28
    Support our school through this sweet fundraiser—details will be sent home with your child.

Scholastic Book Fair

  • Monday, October 6: 3:15–4:00 p.m.
  • Tuesday, October 7: 3:15–7:30 p.m. (extended hours for conferences)
  • Wednesday, October 8: 3:15–7:30 p.m. (extended hours for conferences)
  • Thursday, October 9: 3:15–4:00 p.m.
    The book fair is a great way to grow your child’s love of reading while supporting our library.

  • October 29, 2:30 p.m.: Assembly performance — families are welcome to attend!

Halloween Parade

    Students are invited to wear costumes and join us for a festive morning parade.
  • Happy Halloween Cougars! We are excited to bring back our annual Halloween parade. Columbine PK-5 students will parade outside around the entire building. 5th grade students will lead the parade with Preschool and Kindergarten students bringing up the end. Parents are welcome to view the parade outside.
  • Parade
    • Grades PreK-5 Parade will be held on Oct. 31st at 8:45
  • Costumes
    • Students should come to school fully dressed in their costumes. After the parade, there will be an option for students to change out of their costumes, otherwise they can wear them all day. You will receive information about classroom parties and activity specifics from your classroom teacher.
  • Costumes do’s and don’ts: 
    • Students are not to wear blood, gore, or face paint. Weapons as accessories are not allowed. Costume masks can only be worn on the top of the head or the back of the head. We know that these are a part of a costume; however, we are asking that they not be incorporated into your child’s costume for school. Costumes must be appropriate for primary age parade viewers.
  • Participation
    • Participation in the parade is optional. We will have an alternate activity for students who do not wish to participate.
  • Happy Halloween!

Quick Safety Reminders

For everyone’s safety:

  • Please use the entrance on Longs Peak Avenue when driving into the parking lot. The Baker Street exit is for exiting only.
  • Pets are not permitted on school grounds. If you bring a dog with you, please wait on the sidewalk rather than entering the blacktops.

2025 State of Colorado Official Student Count Day

Attendance is an essential part of our state required October Count. The 2025 STATE COUNT DAY is Wednesday, October 1st.  It is super important that we have strong attendance on this day! Our state requires us to confirm our enrollment through this count process. Please help us by helping your student get to school on time on October 1st (and every day!).

Free and Reduced Lunch Forms

*Please note that breakfast and lunch are FREE for ALL students

Each year, our community participates in completing the district Free and Reduced Lunch form paperwork. We ask that EVERY family completes the form, even if you do not believe that you will qualify for Free and Reduced Lunch Status.

It is easiest to complete this form online: Free & Reduced Meal Application LINK. You can also call Kari Jacobs, Nutrition Services Coordinator, for assistance (303-702-7793). We do have computers in the Main Office for parents to utilize to complete the Free and Reduced Lunch form. Please set up an appointment with the Main Office staff to use the computer or to get assistance with completing the form.

Your student’s teacher will be posted on the front doors of Columbine on Friday, August 8th at 3:00pm. (Note: While we will make every effort not to make changes, this information is subject to change if movement is needed to balance classroom numbers.)

We started the school year off on the right foot! At Columbine Elementary, we kicked off the year with two wonderful and well-attended events:   

  • First Cafecito of the year
    • This is a great space to connect, share, and support our families. 
  • First English class for parents
    • Another step forward in learning and growing together.

We would love to have you (your adult family members and friends!) volunteer at Columbine. This year, all that is needed to volunteer is the below application. Students will be bringing home copies of these on August 15th but you can also access them below. Thank you for considering!

  • The iPad insurance fee will be reduced or waived for students eligible for a free or reduced price lunch under the federal poverty income guidelines and homeless students as defined by McKinney-Vento.

MATERIALS FEE OF $10 FOR GRADES K-5

•This fee will be maintained by your child’s school to purchase the following: school-specific and/or hard to find consumable and nonstandard classroom materials such as school planners and project-based three ring binders.

•By utilizing a fee, individual or specific school needs can be honored, costs are reduced by bulk purchase, and efficiency is met for items some schools may use and some may not.

Registration for the 25-26 School Year

If you will have a preschooler, kindergartner, or will be open enrolling at Columbine for the 2025-2026 school year, you will need to complete an enrollment application online. Please contact the Main Office if you have any questions.

***It is important to complete your child’s immunization paperwork and to turn this form in to the office. The state requires that schools have this completed paperwork on file for each student.***

Reminders for Families

  • Please remind your students they are not allowed to use electronic devices to call you during school hours. We would like them to come to the office to call parents, if necessary. This will help us to provide the right amount of support for your student. All cell phones need to be kept off or on silent during school hours and be in their backpacks.
  • If at any time you need to get a hold of your student, please call the front office and we will contact your student during school hours.
  • If you are picking up your student during school hours, you must present a photo ID. Please remember to report your child’s absence or tardiness to 303-776-2840 or email: floresmiranda_ana @svvsd.org
