Thank you to families for bringing food for teacher conferences

Dear Columbine Families,

Happy March! With spring just around the corner, we’re excited for another month of learning and growth.

State testing is fast approaching! In April, students in grades 3-5 will begin CMAS assessments, which help us measure progress and tailor instruction to their needs. We continue to practice strong test-taking strategies and encourage students to put forth their best effort each day to showcase their learning.

Additionally, Project Launch registration is now open to all!

Academic proficiency remains a key district goal for elementary students, and research shows that extended learning opportunities significantly enhance student success. We look forward to supporting our students on their academic journey!

Project Launch Program Includes:

  • Targeted literacy practice daily
  • Content literacy in science and social studies
  • Focused math study and exploration
  • Transportation provided for those who qualify from predetermined bus stops
  • Breakfast and lunch provided
  • Exiting Kindergarten – 4th Grade Students
  • Available at no cost to families

Invitation to Drone Shows

St. Vrain Valley Schools is proud to host the state robotics tournaments across three different weekends. We are especially happy to recognize that both the student robotics leadership team and the student drone performance team are working together to create the best possible experience for everyone. The drone performance team has created custom drone animations specifically designed to celebrate the world of robotics. Their collaboration and dedication are truly commendable.

As we celebrate our district-wide robotics program, we want to extend a special invitation to all school communities to enjoy these spectacular drone shows. It’s a truly unique and inspiring performance you won’t want to miss!

  • VEX IQ State Robotics – Friday, Feb. 28th at 6:20pm, Trail Ridge Middle
  • V5 Middle State Robotics – Friday, March 7th at 7:30pm, Altona Middle

Career Day Presenter Request

Columbine Elementary, Rocky Mountain Elementary, and Indian Peaks Elementary will host a Career Day on Wednesday, May 7th. A team of staff members leads this collaborative event from three elementary schools and CENTRALongmont, a Presbyterian Congregation. We are looking for professionals within our community to share with our students the daily activities in your line of work and expose them to various career paths and opportunities.

The Career Fair will be from 11:00 am – 2:30 pm on Wednesday, May 7th, for intermediate students (3rd, 4th, & 5th grades) in the gym at Columbine Elementary, where you would have a table set up for any materials or items you would like to bring to inform our students about your career. Students would be encouraged to come ask questions and interact with you. Students will rotate in and out of the gym from 11:15 am – 2:30 pm. Available for part of that time? Even if you only can come for a portion of the event, we would certainly benefit from your participation and support!

Thank you for your consideration. Please contact Ms. Owens if you have further questions or are willing to donate some of your time to Career Day.

STEM Focus

Columbine Elementary is a STEM focus school. STEM is an acronym for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. We know that the world is changing faster than it ever has due to discovery of new science technology and its applications.

Here at Columbine, we are preparing students for a future where innovation, communication, collaboration, global competency, critical thinking, and problem-solving will be essential.

This month in STEM

Students got to practice coding, work with littleBits, use School AI to learn about the life cycle of apple trees, create electronic postcards to Skyline HS students, practice engineering, and create foil boats!
